Ravitch and the facts

Here's a great example of how fast and loose Ravitch play with the facts.  At two recent public events, she's told the tale of a charter school that has seven homeless shelters in its area, yet has not a single child from a shelter, which she cites as evidence of charter schools creaming the best students and leaving the most difficult ones behind.  She pulled this story from a blog posting about an Achievement First school, but if she'd bothered to read the comments below, she'd have seen that someone from the school wrote that representatives from the school went to every homeless shelter, passed out flyers and encouraged the families to apply to the lottery, but for whatever reason they didn't.  This is the most damning story Ravitch can come up with about the supposed evils of charter schools???
