Math: An Inconvenient Truth

Check out this interesting 15-minute video on YouTube called, Math: An Inconvenient Truth(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr1qee-bTZI), which walks viewers through traditional math, which teaches children algorithms, and compares it to various sorts of fuzzy math.  I know I'm wading into a very contentious area in which I'm far from an expert, but I think the way I learned math 30 years ago worked pretty darn well.  Given how dismally we're doing in math as a nation, why are we still messing around with fuzzy math?!
