Church-state

More on the church-state issue from two friends:
On the religious liberty question and 1st Amendment, one should remember that compulsory attendance laws govern K-12. There is no compulsion by government to force young people into college classrooms.
And:
With regard to “separation of church and state”, to the best of my knowledge this phrase does not exist in the Constitution or the any amendments to it. It was not developed through a judicial or legislative deliberation. I understand that the term was used in the personal correspondence of Thomas Jefferson. It has been misused and taken out of context ever since. The meaning of the phrase is very different from the establishment of a religion in the First Amendment.
