The Wire

Another friend's comments on The Wire
I can’t tell you how remarkably accurate it is.  The classroom scenes are so perfect that they seriously cause flashbacks.  I know a teacher who used to be TFA Baltimore, and he can’t watch it because it’s too painful to remember.  The street scenes are pure Newark, Baltimore, Atlanta, wherever.  There has never been a realistic portrayal of inner-city teaching -- movies like Dangerous Minds make the violence and indiscipline of the classrooms seem random and the solutions too easy – in The Wire, though, the depth of the issue is made evident.
