Modest Gains in City Math Scores on Federal Test

Here’s the NYT article about the NAEP results, which concludes with this ridiculous statement that is totally contrary to the data by UFT President Michael Mulgrew:

Michael Mulgrew, the president of the city’s teachers’ union, who has clashed with the Bloomberg administration, said the results showed “very small gains.”

“It’s time to admit that the D.O.E.’s education strategy is not working,” he said in a statement. “The system is letting down a whole generation of kids.”

Modest Gains in City Math Scores on Federal Test

New York City’s fourth and eighth graders did not perform significantly better on federal math exams this year than in 2007, according to test scores released on Tuesday.
