Success in Memphis

Before flying home, I met the superintendent of Memphis schools, Dr. Kriner Cash (accompanied by Bob Compton, Brad Leon (the head of Teach for America in Tennessee – here's an article about him: www.memphisflyer.com/memphis/teaching-for-america/Content?oid=1128437), and Grace Williams, who is in training to be the principal of one of the new KIPP schools in the area in a couple of years).  Dr. Cash has really embraced reform since becoming super a year and half ago, is planning to double the number of TFA corps members in the city, and, most importantly, with a $90M grant from the Gates Foundation, is turning over the entire HR department of Memphis Public Schools to The New Teacher Project.  WOW!
