National launch of The Lottery

National launch of The Lottery.  Here's another email from Joe:

Folks:

Yesterday we blasted around a list of theaters around the country that will be showing Madeline Sackler's new action/ed reform flick, "The Lottery" as part of the historic "Public Education Day" at the movies. (I will attach that list to the end of this email for those of you who had a bead of sweat fall off your brow and accidentally land on your delete key. Hey, it happens, no biggie.)

But there are three more reasons that Big Tuesday marks an important day for many people on this DFER email list:

 1. Tuesday is the Democratic Primary Election in California's contentious battle to become the state schools superintendent. Our friend, State Sen. Gloria Romero, is running head on against the education establishment (blob) in a race that will be very telling in terms of how much political progress education reformers are really making in key states for Democrats. The powerful and deep-pocketed California Teachers Association is going after Romero hard due to her courageous leadership on the Golden State's Race To The Top legislation and for her longstanding bonds with education reformer and parent groups.

If you live in California, vote early and vote often, as they say. Get your friends, family, co-workers to the polls as well. This is a race that will have repercussions thousands of miles beyond the San Andreas fault line.

If you don't live in California, consider making a last-minute contribution to Gloria's campaign to help in the final hours of GOTV. It's easy and you can do so via DFER's "Ed Reformer of the Month" page. http://www.actblue.com/page/dferseptember09

2. "The Lottery" also will be shown in Hot-lanta on Tuesday night! The movie will be shown at 6:30 p.m. at Landmark Midtown Art Theater, Atlanta, GA. What do you say, Georgia?

3. Big Tuesday is also the day you'll want to make sure you have RSVP'd (and paid up!) for some great upcoming DFER events, including:

-- June 23, 6 p.m. - Washington, DC Reception for Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) at the Capitol City Brewing Co. Details at: http://www.dfer.org/events/bennetdc10

-- June 30, 6 p.m. - Chicago Blow-Out Bash Celebrating DFER's Third Birthday at the National Charter Schools Conference. At the Rock Bottom Brewery. Live music, spiked punch, and a bunch of wild and crazy ed reformer who get even wilder and crazier when the school year ends. More details will be blasted out tomorrow.

-- June 30, Washington, DC Reception for Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Virginia). Details to come.
