New York City Service Academy Day
For high school students interested in learning more about serving in the military:
I am pleased to advise you of Senator Gillibrand's annual New York City Service Academy Day held at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y. Students who are considering applying to a Service Academy or ROTC program, their parents and guidance counselors are invited to attend the Service Academy Day on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 6:15 pm and meet representatives from the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis), U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, as well as Army, Navy and Air Force R.O.T.C.
This Service Academy Day is an opportunity for students, parents and schools to learn about the unique academic and career opportunities offered through our nation's Service Academies. Students who attend the Service Academies graduate with a top tier education, strong leadership experience and a commission as an officer. A panel of Academy and R.O.T.C. representatives will provide an overview of the admission process, daily life of a cadet/ midshipman and various paths to officership. Representatives will be available after the panel to discuss and answer questions from students, parents and school officials.
By hosting this Service Academy Day, we hope to increase the number of candidates from all five boroughs of New York City. New York City is one of the least represented regions in the entire Northeast. Our students are losing out on opportunities to earn a top tier education while serving their country. We know that New York City's rich and diverse population would serve the academies well and represent our nation with great distinction.
Attached please find our Service Academy Day flier with further details and information. Please feel free to share this information with students, parents or school officials, who may be interested in attending. R.S.V.P. suggested by October 21th to ServiceAcademyDay@gillibrand.senate.gov. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 212-688-9776.
Best,
Elizabeth
