P.S. 87 Aide Arrested in Sexual Abuse Case

A teacher's aide at a public school on the Upper West Side was arrested in connection with an allegation that he sexually abused a student at the school, the Education Department said Friday.

The aide, Gregory Atkins, 56, had worked at Public School 87 William Sherman on West 78th Street since 2008, the department said. Specifics on the charge were not immediately available. He is the second elementary-school aide to be arrested on sexual-abuse charges this week. An aide in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was arrested on Monday after investigators said they found videos of him engaging in sex acts with students.

P.S. 87 is a highly regarded and popular city school.
