Kamrani Appointed State Director of Democrats for Education

This is GREAT news! Natasha is an incredible ed reform warrior, as is her husband, Chris Barbic, founder of YES Prep in Houston, a fantastic network of charter schools. If I recall correctly, he was in the same TFA class in Houston in the early 1990s as Dave Levin and Mike Feinberg (I think he was roommates with one or both of them in fact) and started YES at the same time they were starting KIPP. State Superintendent Kevin Huffman (who was once married to Michelle Rhee – my goodness, we reformers are incestuous! ;-) lured Chris and Natasha to TN, making him Superintendent of the new Achievement School District (to tackle the lowest performing schools), and we at DFER are thrilled that Natasha is joining us:

Washington, D.C., February 19th, 2013 – Democrats for Education Reform (DFER) announced today the establishment of a new state branch in Tennessee. Natasha Kamrani, a former director of Teach for America and former member of the Houston Independent School Board, will serve as state director.
