No surprise Randi is running from this turd (of her creation), which needs to be closed:
Almost a decade after the United Federation of Teachers launched a charter school to prove that a school could thrive under the city's union contract, new data show the school continues to struggle.
…James Merriman, chief executive officer of the New York City Charter School Center, which advocates for high-quality charters, said the school's results were "just sad."
"Given the school was supposed to be a proof point for union expertise, for the UFT to let it fail so badly strikes me as educational and political malpractice," he said.
The school in the East New York neighborhood was founded in 2005, when then-UFT President Randi Weingarten sought to demonstrate that a school could flourish under the existing teachers' contract and teacher-led schools could be engines of reform.
…When it opened, the UFT Charter School was one of the first union-led charters in the country. It has struggled for years with turnover of principals, fiscal problems and poor test scores in some grade levels.
A spokeswoman for Ms. Weingarten, who is now president of the American Federation of Teachers, said she "hadn't been involved in a long time" with the UFT Charter School.
