Chancellor Klein Vilifies NYC Teachers as 'Undesirable.'
It's very important for those of us in the school reform movement to see how the entrenched forces of the status quo try to whip up opposition to school reform. This screed is a great example -- it's just lie after lie after lie. For example, the title of the article makes it seem like Klein was calling ALL NYC teachers undesirable, when in fact he was (entirely correctly) pointing out that the teachers who were unable to find jobs are "POTENTIALLY undesirable" -- which is pretty tame, as I'd bet 90%+ of them are true lemons and should find another career at which they can succeed. These lies further underscore the need to combat this with HARD DATA.
The author's posting beneath his "article" shows even better his true character, as he stoops to personal attacks and childish name calling. Shame, shame!
You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors at the DOE. Actually it goes on right under our noses, but for some reason folks like this midget with the peanut-sized head and his bald-headed lawyer crony Ed-Czar. They're lying, two-faced, hypocrites. They pretend that they're public educators but they're in bed with a lot of money.

Chancellor Klein Vilifies NYC Teachers as 'Undesirable.'
9/23 | NYC public school teachers are being held hostage by the Department of Education.
Newly, vastly empowered principals have succeeded in inculcating a climate of fear within the schools that proscribes whistle-blowing, grievance filing, and collective action. Nothing demonstrates this more than the Chancellor’s recent remarks that 1500 recently excessed teachers (an increase of 500% from last year) are “potentially undesirable veteran[s]” (The New York Times, 9/2/06).
