Suit says Newark schools failed

Three cheers for this lawsuit!  More suits like this are needed to help pressure cities to comply with NCLB and help kids trapped in failing schools.

Green is part of a class-action lawsuit filed against the Newark Public Schools that alleges the district has "systematically failed" to notify parents and guardians of their rights under the 5-year-old No Child Left Behind Act.

The suit claims the district's failure to tell parents of their options keeps them from taking advantage of "educational services and information to which their children are entitled."

The Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice filed the class action this week in federal court in Newark on behalf of the 44,000 students in the district, the state's largest. More than 30,000 students attend failing schools under the act, according to the suit.
