Boundary jumpers face perjury charges

What is the world coming to when parents are being threatened with up to five years in prison (!) for being so desperate to get their child into a decent school that they "boundary jump"?!

Better think twice before lying to enroll  your child in a public school outside your home boundary, administrators warn.

The Palm Beach County School District has new, tougher rules this year for student enrollment that are aimed at eliminating, or at least reducing, the illegal practice of boundary jumping.

Parents of new and returning students must declare their legal address under penalty of perjury,  a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

"That's a pretty big deal," said Planning Director Kris Garrison. "We've never asked a  parent to sign under penalty of perjury before."
