reformers in Buffalo

My friends at Buffalo ReformED are looking for people to get involved.  Contact Katie Campos at katie@buffaloreformed.com:

The Schott report identified Buffalo as one of the worst public school systems in the country: Buffalo Public Schools graduate 24% of Black Males, and 54% of all students

The Buffalo News' Mary Pasciak (a phenomenal investigative education reporter that is new to covering the BPS) wrote a report yesterday, 8/17, about Buffalo's Superintendent's resistance to implementing State and Federal recommendations to turnaround and improve 7 of the State's persistently failing schools.

These two reports are hard hitting, but the public is apathetic and not sure how to get involved. The time is ripe to get the community involved in the discussion. Our policy makers can only do so much without community support. In Buffalo, we have slowly identified a handful of Eduformers and Education Reform Warriors.  This is our opportunity to identify more and tip the scales toward reform. I firmly believe that every resident of the Greater Buffalo Region cares deeply about the state of our public education system and wants to get involved given the opportunity. Buffalo is similar to these other cities that are walking the line between the status quo of a failed and protected public education system and opportunities for drastic and meaningful education reform.

Would you consider sending out this message and link to your listserve to pick up any Eduformer stranglers in the Buffalo region?

On the blog section of our www.BuffaloReformED.com, I posted a discussion board highlighting these two recent reports and posing the question: What can we do, given our resources and population, to make every school in our region high performing?
