Civic Builders Gala

Civic Builders, a great organization in NYC, is having its annual gala in NYC on Oct. 21:

"Building Kids' Futures", a benefit for Civic Builders, will be held on October 21st from 6-8:30pm at the IAC Building, 555 West 18th Street, NYC.  We are honoring Phoebe Boyer of the Tiger and Robertson Foundations for her phenomenal contributions to public school children and her special role in helping to launch Civic Builders.  Chancellor Klein is our featured speaker.  The evening will highlight the real estate challenges that charter schools face in New York City and Newark.

I think you and I (and many folks on your email list) agree that a poor quality education follows a child throughout his or her life, with devastating impact, and that great charter schools are making a positive difference in children's lives.  Unfortunately, in New York City, real estate is so tight that some charter schools are forced to delay opening or, in some cases, abandon plans to open altogether. Children in need are not being served because schools cannot find homes.

We are using this October 21st event to get the word out about the importance of facilities to the charter school ecosystem and to raise funds for Civic Builders.  I would be very grateful if you could spread the word of the event to people on your email list.  Further details are at www.civicbuilders.org/building-kids-futures.html, and anyone who would like more information can contact Gwen Shufro at shufro@civicbuilders.org.
