Students First Agenda

Here's the recently released (and spot on) agenda for Michelle Rhee's StudentsFirst:

Student achievement must be at the center of every conversation about education reform. That's why we created StudentsFirst, and why over 140,000 people just like you -- including almost 20,000 teachers and 77,000 parents -- have joined us.

We have been listening to your stories and reading your emails. We have talked to policymakers, elected officials, teachers, principals, parents, and concerned citizens. And we're ready.

Today we are releasing an uncompromising agenda to transform public education in this country. Read our policy agenda focused on putting students first now:

Thousands of you took our first survey. Thank you. It was very helpful to learn that you want us to prioritize our work to fight for teacher tenure reform and to establish lay-off policies that save the best teachers.

These top priorities of StudentsFirst members are captured in our first focus area of our policy agenda:

·         Elevate the teaching profession by valuing teachers' impact on students;

·         Empower parents with real choices and real information; and

·         Spend taxpayers' money wisely to get better results for students.
