Mentor a KIPP student

This was buried at the end of my last email, so I wanted to highlight it here:

 

If you live in the NYC area and are even 1% as inspired by KIPP as I am, I hope you'll consider mentoring a KIPP NY student.  In addition to running amazing schools, KIPP provides its alumni with critical support to help them to and through college via the KIPP Through College (KTC) program.  This year KTC is launching a formal mentoring program for 45 high school juniors.  As we scale our NYC programming, this mentoring pilot is a meaningful volunteer opportunity for a working professional who is interested in directly impacting one young person navigating the college admission and matriculation process.

 

The flexible program involves sending your mentee an email once a week and meeting them in person once a month.  Emails are sent through a web-based platform and follow a set curriculum designed to foster relationships with the expressed purpose of moving the mentee to and through college.  Monthly meet-ups will take place at a combination of KTC's office in the Financial District and fun cultural venues in the City.  The dates have not yet been determined, but KTC's aim is to provide mentors with at least four weeks' notice before each meet-up is scheduled to occur.

 

Mentor-mentee matches are same gender, and based on a combination of personal, academic and career interests.  Completing an online application begins the mentor screening process. Signing up is easy; simply go to https://kippnyc.imentorinteractive.org to complete the application.  The program's official launch will be in September.
