Bloomberg Re-emphasizes School Control

There are SO many fights we need to wage simultaneously to maintain the remarkable progress and momentum in reforming New York City's educational system.  Don't get tired because they will never disappear, as those that hate what's happening will NEVER give up their efforts to roll back the clock to the comfortable old days of no accountability and lots of excuses (and resulting educational carnage).  In addition to continuing the fight to lift the charter cap, here's another critical one:

The 2002 law that gave Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg nearly unfettered power over New York’s public schools paved the way for his ambitious overhaul of the city’s educational system, which he considered the signature achievement of his first term.

But that law is set to expire in 2009, and faced with the looming deadline, Mr. Bloomberg has embarked on a high-profile offensive to make mayoral control permanent. At stake, the administration fears, is the long-term fate of his changes to the school system, which it believes will define his two terms as mayor much as the reductions in crime defined Rudolph W. Giuliani’s years in City Hall.
