Kudos to KIPP Bay Area schools:

Dear Whitney,

California Standards Test results from the 2009-10 school year were recently released, and we wanted you to be among the first to know about our students' success!

At all five of our middle schools, KIPP eighth graders outperformed their local districts and the state of California in English, Science and Social Studies.

At both of our high schools, KIPP students in ninth through eleventh grades (all grades tested in 2009-10) outperformed their local districts and the state of California in English and History.  KIPP King Collegiate will expand to serve twelfth grade this year.

Our two high schools also posted impressive results on Advanced Placement exams:

Only 21% of graduating Seniors in California passed an Advanced Placement (AP) exam in 2009. By contrast, 51% of KIPP King Collegiate Juniors who took an AP exam passed in 2010, and 50% of KIPP San Jose Collegiate Sophomores who took an AP exam passed in 2010.

On behalf of our students, parents, and teachers, thank you for your support in helping underserved students climb the mountain to and through college. Please see below for additional updates related to the national KIPP network.

Sincerely,

Beth Sutkus Thompson
Executive Director
