Urban Prep of Chicago

Great news from Urban Prep of Chicago (ABC News covered its graduation in May: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Inspirations/robin-roberts-inspired-young-men-urban-prep-academy/story?id=10667953):

I wanted to share some great news with you, news that stands as further proof that students with substantial academic deficits can succeed provided they are offered great schools.  Last Friday, September 10, Urban Prep of Chicago hosted its 2010 convocation, a ceremony welcoming the incoming ninth grade class.  It was truly inspirational.   Urban Prep is a network of three high schools serving African-American boys and boasted a 100% high school graduation rate and a 100% four-year, college-going rate for its first cohort of graduates earlier this year.  Urban Prep is now serving 1,000 students and has plans to expand in the coming years to serve even more students in our city.  At the convocation, recognized INCS' work on raising the charter cap in Illinois; without the raise, Chicago would have run out of available charters and Urban Prep would have been unable to grow its network.  This lends urgency to our continuing work to both secure an alternative charter authorizer in Illinois and to eliminate the charter cap entirely.

I just wanted to share this good news with you.  Obviously, INCS is proud to have Urban Prep among our members.
